‘Why not?’ Tottenham should be fighting for Premier League title shot, says Lucas Moura

Lucas Moura says Tottenham should be aiming to win the Premier League title this season.

Spurs are top of the table at this stage of the campaign for the first time since 1985 following Saturday’s encouraging 2-0 win over Man City.

Jose Mourinho has only once failed to win the title in his second season with a club – with Manchester United – and Spurs would consolidate their status as contenders with a victory at Stamford Bridge, where Mourinho won his first Premier League crown, on Sunday.

The Portuguese has been careful not to talk-up Spurs’ chances of a maiden Premier League title, but Lucas says there is no reason they should not ai for summit.

“I think we are building a very good mentality for the season and we made very good signings in the summer," the Brazilian said ahead of Thursday’s visit of Ludogorets in the Europa League.

"We know how difficult is the Premier League. But why not to think to win the Premier League?

"I think we have the capacity to win and I know it is too early to speak about this. There are a lot of games to play. We need to think about this and fight for this.

"Every game that we play, every time we are on the pitch, we need to think we are able to win the Premier League. And we need to think that every game is important.

"That is why in every game we are trying to show this mentality and going very well. I hope that we keep it going this way. I am very positive.

“I have a very good feeling about this season,” added Lucas.

"I know that it's too early to speak about a trophy, but to win every game in the Premier League is important.

"And I know at the end of the season the points we get now will be very important, that's why we need to think of every game like a final and be competitive and be aggressive.

“And do our best. But like I said, we need to believe and trust in our team and our club. And believe it's possible because in football everything is possible, and that's it."
