Chelsea have confirmed that Radamel Falcao will continue with his favoured shirt number by taking up the vacant No.9 jersey next season.
The Premier League champions announced on Monday evening that the Colombia striker will wear the No.9 shirt during his season-long loan next term, which was last held by Fernando Torres.
The move will see Falcao continue in his tradition of wearing the shirt number, with the 29-year-old having been No.9 at Manchester United, Monaco, Atletico Madrid and Colombia.
The striker will now follow in the footsteps of several Blues players who have failed to prove a success in the No.9 shirt in recent years, which has subsequently become known as the 'curse of the No 9'.
Falcao finalised his loan move to Stamford Bridge in early July following his exploits for his nation at the 2015 Copa America tournament.
The transfer occurred despite the striker enduring a difficult season at United last year, which saw Falcao score just four Premier League goals.
His struggles at Old Trafford did not deter Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, though, after the Portuguese tactician admitted he believed he could help the forward rediscover his goal-scoring form.
"It hurts me that people in England think that the real Falcao is the one we saw at Manchester United," he said in June.
Chelsea begin the new Premier League campaign with a home game against Swansea City on August 8.
