New England Women boss Sarina Wiegman insists she is still learning plenty about her side, despite their latest hammering of vastly inferior opposition.

Wiegman, who took over from interim head coach Hege Riise last month, watched her team thrash Latvia 10-0 in Riga on Tuesday night to make it a perfect four wins out of four in World Cup qualifying at the start of her reign.

The Lionesses have scored 32 goals in those matches without conceding any, with a 4-0 win over Northern Ireland the closest they have come to a testing encounter, and the standard of opposition has made it difficult to draw many conclusions about the team’s development with little more than eight months to go until the start of a European Championship on home soil.

However, Wiegman insisted: “I’ve learnt a lot. There is lots of willingness, lots of quality and depth. We can play high-tempo, a possession game and move the ball to switch the field.

"We have players who can score. It was hard circumstances as it was not a good opponent, the field was not as good as Saturday [at Wembley against Northern Ireland], it was windy and raining, but you still see the eagerness to score lots of goals and get the game to a high level.”

Manchester United forward Ella Toone was the star of the show against Latvia, scoring a hat-trick, and Wiegman hailed the 22-year-old’s potential.

"I don't know how good she will become - that's up to her. But she's really talented, that's obvious. I'm very happy she got this hat-trick."
