Sign Harry Kane! Maradona advises Napoli to move for Tottenham star if Gonzalo Higuain leaves

Diego Maradona has advised former club Napoli to sign Harry Kane if they sell Gonzalo Higuain this summer.

Kane’s form for Tottenham this season has drawn a growing number of admirers and Maradona, one of the finest ever to play the game, has now joined them.

Napoli risk losing Higuain, who has scored 34 goals for them this term, before the start of next season after they failed to stop Juventus winning their fifth consecutive Serie A title.

And Maradona, who helped Napoli to their only two Serie A titles in 1987 and 1990, has identified Higuain’s ideal replacement.

“In place of Higuain, I would go all out for Kane,” said the Argentina legend, speaking on Italian TV station Piuenne. Maradona has watched in admiration as Kane has scored 24 times in the League this season to lead the scoring charts.

Tottenham have no intention of selling Kane and even if their stance changed, it is unlikely Kane would consider a move to Naples. The status of Serie A is not what it was in the 1980s and 1990s, and only champions Juventus would have the cachet to attract Europe’s top forwards.

Standard Sport revealed last week that Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have asked to be kept informed of Kane’s plans. Kane currently has no thoughts of leaving and is expected to be offered an improved contract at the end of the campaign. The 22-year-old earns about £50,000 a week.
