On the field, managing to keep hold, for the time being at least, of Dimitri Payet.

Off the field, the club finally made their big move to the London Stadium.

Since then, there have been many problems but if West Ham truly want to move up to the next level, it had to happen.

What’s gone wrong?

Last season, West Ham did brilliantly with their summer signings but this time things haven’t gone nearly so well.

New faces should at the very least improve the quality of the squad but this just hasn’t happened. Injuries have also been a problem.

What do they need in January?

In terms of players, a right-back is not only a priority, it is absolutely essential. Michail Antonio has many qualities but defensive awareness is not one of them.

Slaven Bilic needs to play him further up the pitch with the security of a top-class full-back behind him.

A central defender and a striker are also needed.
