Sol Campbell can cope at white hot Lane, says Ray Parlour

Lane return: Sol Campbell
11 April 2012

Ray Parlour has backed former team-mate Sol Campbell to emerge from tonight's north London derby at White Hart Lane with his reputation in tact.

Campbell has started eight matches since rejoining Arsenal in January and has been in impressive form despite only taking part in minimal training as he manages his body to cope with the demands of top level football.

Parlour believes the 35-year-old will be desperate to prove he retains all his ability in front of a fervent Tottenham support who are sure to give him a rough ride on his first trip back to the Lane since re-signing for the Gunners.

"Sol is playing as well which adds even more fuel to the fire so both sides have to win," Parlour said.

"He has done a good job since coming back and has been a good presence to have in the dressing room which still has a lot of players in it who have never won anything.

"But he was spared against Barcelona and has missed some of the bigger matches so this is a chance for him to prove he can still cut it against the best sides in the League.

"Sol will get a lot of abuse but he is experienced at dealing with that. It is worth remembering though that his deal expires with Arsenal in the summer and he will want to show both Arsene Wenger and other managers that he could play for another year."
