Stoke swoop for Peter Crouch and Wilson Palacios

Stoke have made a bid in the region of £16million for Tottenham duo Peter Crouch and Wilson Palacios.

Spurs are keen to sell as they look to raise funds to sign Lassana Diarra from Real Madrid, who are ready to lower their original demand for £17m to help make the deal happen.

Crouch has attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs including Sunderland and Everton and although he is thought to be reluctant to leave London, the 30-year-old is keen to ensure he has regular first-team football with Euro 2012 on the horizon next summer.

Palacios arrived for £12m from Wigan in 2009 and Spurs are keen to recoup as much of that fee as possible.

Stoke chairman Peter Coates said: "We've made our last bid, the ball is in their court. We shall not be negotiating from where we are.

"The last conversation I had with Spurs, we had not agreed anything. We'll see what happens, but we haven't got any further."

Spurs were thought to be holding out for a combined fee of £20m but may accept the offer as they seek to raise funds to pursue Diarra, who Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp signed for Portsmouth in 2008.

Diarra is keen to work with Redknapp for a second time but the parties remain far apart regarding personal terms, with the 26-year-old earning £120,000-a-week at the Bernabeu Stadium.

Stoke's double swoop would add to their signing of Matthew Upson who agreed a two-year deal yesterday after being released by West Ham.
