Super Bowl commercials: St. Louis lawyer slams Arsenal majority shareholder Kroenke's Rams relocation

Under fire: Kroenke has come under pressure from Arsenal and Rams supporters

Arsenal majority shareholder Stan Kroenke’s management of his NFL franchise the St. Louis Rams has come under fire ahead of the most high-profile sports event in America.

A St. Louis fan angry at the owner’s decision to move the Rams to Los Angeles next season has taken out an advert to run in the local area during Super Bowl 50 in which he urges fans to “Slam Stan”.

In January Kroenke won the battle among NFL owners to transfer his franchise to California ahead of the 2016 season, leaving the Missouri city without an American football team for the first time in 20 years.

Terry Crouppen, a leading local lawyer with the Brown and Crouppen firm, suggested Kroenke had “trashed” the city after the loyalty its supporters had shown the Rams, who have not the league playoffs in 12 years.

“Just because it’s legal and you’re rich enough to do it, doesn’t make it right,” Crouppen added.

In the two days since the video was posted on Youtube it has seen over 120,000 views whilst its hashtag (#SlamStan) was trending in the St. Louis area.

The hashtag was also embraced by Arsenal fans, who have grown increasingly disgruntled in recent months with their club’s approach to ticketing events.

Twice in as many weeks the London side have been forced to back down over matchday plans, with the club having to offer refunds to non-season ticket holders after its game with Leicester was rearranged with just three weeks’ notice.

The Arsenal Supporters’ Trust also spearheaded a successful policy to convince the club to overturn its plans to impose a surcharge on season ticket holders who wish to attend this month’s Champions League tie with Barcelona.
