Sven Goran Eriksson: I tried to sign Beckham for Leicester

Leicester lure: Sven Goran Eriksson admits he tried to lure David Beckham back to England from LA Galaxy
11 April 2012

Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson today revealed he made an audacious attempt to lure David Beckham to Leicester City.

The club's new owners are ready to back the Swede in the January transfer window and have been linked with a number of big-name players.

The Leicester boss confirmed he made an enquiry about Beckham but accepts the club need to be in the top flight to bring in star players.

He told Sky Sports: "The owners want a big signing. It is interesting the players that have been mentioned. Most of them don't really want to come to our league. If we get to the Premier League it will be much easier.

"If you talk about Beckham, of course I should take Beckham but I don't think he will go anywhere. I spoke to his agent to see if there was a small chance but it's not possible."
