Tim Sherwood gives backing to Tottenham striker Roberto Soldado

Tim Sherwood believes it is only a matter of time before £26million striker Roberto Soldado comes good.

Soldado (above) is Tottenham’s top scorer this season with 10 goals in all competitions but he has scored just once from open play in the Premier League this season.

Soldado is still adapting to the Premier League after spending his whole career in La Liga, while there are question marks over his confidence but Tottenham’s head coach has no doubts the former Valencia striker will prove his hefty price-tag was money well spent.

“He will get there if he keeps sticking at it,” said Sherwood, who replaced Soldado after 63 minutes of Saturday’s 2-0 defeat by Arsenal because of a calf injury.

“He is a good pro. He seems to be all right, he seems to be happy in himself. I would like to give him a few more chances than he had at Arsenal.

“He has been in the game for a long time and he knows where the net is — we don’t have to teach him that.”
