Former Tottenham coach Tim Sherwood admits he is 'very surprised' that Mauricio Pochettino sold Nacer Chadli to West Brom this summer, with the winger starring for the Baggies this weekend.

Chadli put in a superb performance during West Brom's 4-2 victory against West Ham on Saturday, scoring the opener from the penalty spot and setting up two more goals to shock Slaven Bilic's Hammers.

The Belgium international spent three mixed years at White Hart Lane before leaving for The Hawthorns for £13million in the summer transfer window, and Sherwood - who played for Spurs and also managed them between December 2013 and May 2014 - believes that Chadli still has potential to be a hit in the Premier League.

"Nacer Chadli is a fantastic signing, Tony Pulis has done brilliantly to get him to the football club," Sherwood told Sky Sports.

"I think he's a great signing for them, he gives them a little bit of guile.

"I had him at Tottenham, Nacer - he affects the football match, he can assist and he can score and I was very surprised that Tottenham let him go to be perfectly honest.

"He will get 10-plus goals for West Brom. They could be crucial for keeping them in the division.

"He was never missing [the penalty], never in a million years was he missing it.

"I think it's the first penalty he's ever taken, certainly in England, he never took them at Tottenham, but this is going to add to his tally."
