Erik Lamela could miss the start of the season after he was named in Argentina's squad for the Copa America.
The Tottenham forward is in the 23-man group chosen by boss Gerardo Martino for the tournament in Chile, which starts on June 11.
If Argentina reach the final, Lamela will be involved until July 4 - three days after Spurs are due to start pre-season.
Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino has already hinted that Harry Kane, who will play for England in the European Under-21 Championships, might not be fit in time for the beginning of the 2015/16 campaign on August 8.
Both Kane and Lamela would need recovery time if their countries make progress.
Pochettino plans a very tough fitness regime for his players in the summer and fears Kane and Lamela might not be up to speed if they do not take full part in it.
Lamela has yet to show he can be as important to Spurs as Kane, who scored 31 goals this season.

But his displays improved during the closing weeks of the campaign and it is thought Pochettino still has faith in his compatriot, even though there has been interest from Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid.
