Arsenal great Paul Merson has launched an astonishing rebuke of his former manager Arsene Wenger’s transfer policy, claiming Tottenham’s are outclassing their London rivals in the market.

Most notably Merson, who was sold by Wenger in the summer of 1997 after 12 years at Highbury, claimed that Spurs’ full-backs are vastly superior to Hector Bellerin and Nacho Monreal.

And ahead of this afternoon’s North London Derby the 49-year-old insisted that full-back was not the only position where Spurs had the beating of Arsenal.

“Spurs’ full-backs, Kyle Walker and Danny Rose, are 100 times better. So are the two centre-halves,” he told the Sunday Mirror.

“Petr Cech would have been the better keeper years ago, but ain’t now.

“With the holding midfield players there’s no comparison, with [Victor] Wanyama and Mousa Dembele so much better.

“Then centre-forward — Olivier Giroud or Harry Kane? No comparison.

“Only Alexis Sanchez would get in this Spurs team. That’s the worry for me.”

Wenger has admitted to missing out to Spurs for recent targets, revealing that his scouts had watched Dele Alli “a few times” before the England international left MK Dons in a £5million move to White Hart Lane.

Arsenal had also monitored Wanyama when the anchorman was at Southampton but would ultimately go on to spend £34million on Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka.
