Tottenham striker Vincent Janssen has a "proper English" style of play, and can help to alleviate the pressure on Harry Kane, according to teammate Christian Eriksen.

The 22-year-old joined Spurs from AZ Alkmaar earlier this summer and has made a promising start to his career at White Hart Lane.

Janssen is yet to open his goalscoring account in the Premier League but Mauricio Pochettino is adamant he has 'big expectations' for the Dutchman this season.

Janssen started Saturday's win against Crystal Palace and put in a real shift against seasoned defenders Scott Dann and Damien Delaney, which Eriksen believes defied the forward's Netherlands roots.

"Vincent, he’s something different - even though he’s from Holland, he’s proper English," Eriksen told the club's official website.

"He loves to tackle, he loves to battle and he loves to play football.

"It’s the beginning for him, he wants to show everyone that he can play football and he’s done that.

"For him it’s about getting his confidence and with a bit of luck he’ll be scoring," he added.

Pochettino paired Janssen with Harry Kane against Palace but failed to convince former Spurs manager Harry Redknapp, who expects the latter to remain the focal point of Tottenham's attack alongside Dele Alli this season.

However, Eriksen believes Janssen's battling qualities can benefit Kane as he attempts to build on the 25 Premier League goals he scored last season.

“I think there was a good connection between them.

“Vincent took some big hits for the team with all the hustle and bustle up front which I think made it a bit easier for Harry because normally it’s him that’s doing all the battling," Eriksen insisted.

Spurs face Liverpool next weekend and Pochettino must decide whether to continue with Kane and Janssen or recall Alli for the visit of Jurgen Klopp's side.
