Aston Villa defender Micah Richards will serve a one-match suspension with immediate effect after admitting an FA misconduct charge, the governing body has announced.

The Villa captain missed their Capital One Cup clash against Southampton last week through injury but was expected to return for tonight's clash with Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

But the FA has announced that the former Manchester City man will now miss tonight's match, and receives an additional £10,000 fine.

"Micah Richards will serve a one match suspension with immediate effect after he admitted an FA misconduct charge," an FA statement read.

"The Aston Villa defender, who was also fined £10,000, breached FA Rule E3 in that his behaviour in or around the tunnel area after the end of the game against Swansea City on 24 October 2015 constituted improper conduct."
