The Carabao Cup Final between Tottenham and Manchester City this month will have fans in attendance after confirmation that the match will be one of the test events used to trial the safe return of spectators following the Covid-19 crisis.
As part of the Government’s Events Research Programme, 8,000 people will be permitted to attend the fixture at Wembley Stadium on April 25.
A proportion of those tickets - expected to be around 2,000 each - will be allocated to both clubs in addition to local residents in Brent and NHS staff.
In a statement on Sunday, Tottenham said: “We are conscious that this fixture is less than three weeks away and we will therefore seek to provide you with further information as soon as we have any more updates.”
The second FA Cup semi-final between Leicester City and Southampton on April 18 will also be a pilot event with 4,000 people in attendance, with 21,000 then expected to attend the FA Cup Final itself at Wembley on May 15.
“We are delighted to be hosting three test events at Wembley and are confident we can offer a safe environment,” said FA CEO Mark Bullingham. “This is an important first step towards getting fans back, with the end goal of full stadia - hopefully by the end of the men’s Euros.
“We would like to thank all authorities for their support throughout this process.”
The World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield - running from April 17 to May 3 - is the first sporting event to be included in the trial while there will also be a mass participation run at Hatfield House on April 24 and 25.
In developing the scheme, officials will take into account three factors - whether an individual has received the vaccine, has recently tested negative for the virus, or has "natural immunity" having tested positive in the previous six months.
The NHS is said to be currently working on ways of providing people with the means to demonstrate their Covid status through "digital and non-digital routes".
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: "We have made huge strides over the past few months with our vaccine programme and everyone in the country has made huge sacrifices to get us to this stage in our recovery from Covid-19.
"We are doing everything we can to enable the reopening of our country so people can return to the events, travel and other things they love as safely as possible, and these reviews will play an important role in allowing this to happen."
