Watch Cowdenbeath star concede strange penalty with 'diving headbutt'

Right decision? McKenna wins a late penalty

Cowdenbeath forward Jordan Garden cost his side dear with a late, improvised lunge in their defeat at Berwick Rovers.

With the game scoreless and just 10 minutes remaing, the Scottish League Two bottom club were on course for just their sixth point of the campaign on Saturday when Garden's intervention denied them a point.

Cowdenbeath were living dangerously and had just seen a Berwick strike come back off the inside of the post when Garden performed a "diving headbutt" in the box to block Michael McKenna's route to goal.

Berwick Rovers' official Twitter account tweeted: "Michael McKenna is tripped up by a diving headbutt and the ref points to the spot."

Despite the unorthodox style, Garden's team-mates appeared dismayed by the decision to award a penalty and gestured towards the ball as if to claim their colleague's challenge was fair.

McKenna picked himself up off the pitch and dispatched the penalty to hand Berwick a narrow victory and leave Cowdenbeath rooted to the bottom of the table.
