Super Suarez: His video call shows Luis is not all bad
James Benge6 May 2015

For Mateo, a young cancer patient in Uruguay, a video consultation with a Spanish doctor took a heart-warming turn after the mysterious Dr Federico Gonzalez turned out to be his idol, Luis Suarez.

Mateo, originally from Spain, thought he was heading to the Dr Perez Scremini Foundation for a check-up but was left confused when the doctor on the other end of the line asked if he had celebrated one of his goals.

He burst into tears when the Barcelona star revealed himself as the mystery voice on the other end of the phone. Suarez offered words of support for Mateo, telling him: “You are very brave, a fighter, so you must keep on going.”

The Uruguayan striker promised the youngster one of his shirts if he continued to take his medication and follow his doctor’s instructions.

Scroll down for the moving video of Suarez and Mateo’s conversation.

The Scremini Perez foundation focuses on curing childhood cancer, working out of the Pereira Rossell Hospital in Montevideo.
