Mesut Ozil secured Champions League victory for Arsenal with one of his greatest strikes and a possible early contender for goal of the season.

Having battled back from 2-0 down away to Bulgarian champions Ludogorets Razgrad Arsenal seemed on course for a disappointing 2-2 draw that would, it eventually transpired, have seen them lose ground to Paris St Germain (late winners in Basel).

But that was when Ozil popped up. Timing his run to perfection he collected a lofted pass from substitute Mohamed Elneny before lobbing the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper Milan Borjan.

Even having taken the goalkeeper out of the question the German had plenty to do. Two defenders rushed back to steal possession but Ozil left both of them on the deck to secure an improbable win.

It was Ozil’s fourth goal in the Champions League this season, adding to the hat-trick he scored in last month’s 6-0 victory over Ludogorets. With two assists to his name also it has unquestionably been a profitable European campaign for Arsenal's record signing.
