Most people would assume that Wayne Rooney is desperate to pull on the blue of Everton after his switch from Manchester United, but he has revealed that he has actually been wearing the club’s pyjamas for the past 13 years.

The 31-year old has made a sensational return to the club he supported and then represented as a boy. He has never made any secret of his love for Everton, having insisted that they are the only Premier League team that he would have joined.

Rooney burst on the scene aged just 16, scoring a spectacular goal against Arsenal at Goodison Park that announced this talent to the world. He scored 15 goals in 67 Premier League appearances for the club, and now admits that he never lost his love for the Toffees.

“It feels great. To be honest,” he told the club site.

“I’ve kept it quiet for the last 13 years but I’ve actually been wearing Everton pyjamas at home with my kids. I had to keep that a bit quiet!

“It’s great. (Wearing the shirt) feels as special as it did 13 years ago and I’m just looking forward now to getting out on the pitch with it on.”

Everton fans will be hoping that their new no.10 will be back amongst the goals 13 years after he last represented the club he supports.
