Wayne Rooney calls on Manchester United fans as Reds bid to avoid unwanted record

Wayne Rooney has called on Manchester United supporters to rally round the team as they look to avoid a fourth successive defeat against Swansea City on Saturday.

The Reds remain winless in 2014 after Premier League defeat by Tottenham was followed by a premature FA Cup third round exit and a Capital One Cup loss at basement club Sunderland.

And a similar outcome in this evening’s late kick-off would see United claim an unwanted 52-year-old record.

Indeed, the English champions have not lost four consecutive games since October 1961, but Rooney – who will miss out through injury – has urged supporters to get behind the team.

"The crowd can help the team's confidence massively so hopefully everyone will get behind the lads and stay with them and the manager throughout the game," the 28-year-old said on his Facebook page.
