West Ham climbed above Manchester United to fifth place in the Premier League table courtesy of a comfortable 3-0 victory against West Brom this afternoon.
Slaven Bilic's side have now cut the gap to the top four to just five points but were let off the hook early on at the Hawthorns when the ball broke kindly to Craig Gardner at the back post.
The unmarked midfielder had the goal at his mercy but could only direct his header wide of the target, much to Tony Pulis's annoyance.
The visitors took the lead in the 34th minute when Winston Reid won the ball high up the pitch and found Dimitri Payet wide on the right flank.
The Frenchman whipped in an inch-perfect cross and Cheikhou Kouyate produced a cushioned header back across Ben Foster into the net.
West Brom's Jonathan Leko became the first player born in 1999 to start a Premier League game but his debut almost came to a premature end after a clash with Manuel Lanzini, before the youngster was deemed fit enough to continue.
Kouyate turned provider on the stroke of half time when he burst down the left flank and squared for Mark Noble, who prodded home into the bottom corner, which all-but ended the game as a contest.
Substitute Saido Berahino fashioned the hosts' best chance of the game just after the hour mark but the striker's shot was scuffed and skimmed wide of Adrian's post.
Noble added a third goal courtesy of a thumping volley late on and West Ham are now unbeaten in 10 games and sit above Louis van Gaal's side in the standings on goal difference.
