The midfielder is flying back from the UAE to finalise a move which could become permanent

West Ham have agreed a deal to sign Kalvin Phillips on loan until the end of the season, with an option to make the move permanent in the summer.

The Manchester City midfielder is travelling back to the UK having been away on the treble-winners’ mid-season training camp in the United Arab Emirates and is expected to complete the move in the coming days.

It was initially thought Phillips would only be allowed to leave on a straight loan this month, but Standard Sport understands West Ham have struck a deal that includes an option to buy.

The England international will have a medical at Rush Green later this week and, barring any late twist, will be available to make his debut when the Hammers meet Bournemouth in the Premier League next week.

The deal is a major coup for David Moyes, who has been a long-term admirer of the 28-year-old and failed with a £50million bid to sign him from Leeds two years ago this month.

Phillips moved to the Etihad Stadium six months later but has made only two Premier League starts since and is desperate for regular playing time ahead of this summer's Euro 2024, with Gareth Southgate warning his players they risk missing out on selection if they are not playing regular football.
