Carlos Vela has been frustrated by a lack of football at Arsenal

After a season hampered by injuries and a lack of playing time at Arsenal, Mexico forward Carlos Vela is looking at the World Cup as his chance to shine.

Vela is hoping the tournament in South Africa will "open doors" for him, "if not at Arsenal, we'll see where." The striker is competing with six other Mexico forwards for a starting position at the World Cup.

The striker, who failed to convert two one-on-one chances Monday in Mexico's 3-1 loss to England in a friendly, says his season at Arsenal was "very difficult" because of injuries and not having "many playing opportunities" when he was fit.
