Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi says he had no intention to leave during the season.

Arsenal are known to admire the 24-year-old Spanish international and were linked with a move for him during the January transfer window, along with Barcelona.

Mikel Arteta eventually brought in Jorginho from Chelsea but Zubimendi continues to be linked with a move away from his boyhood club heading into the summer window.

While the midfielder signed a new contract running until 2027 and containing a release clause of £52.7m back in October, it is thought he will assess his options at the end of the season.

“Rumours, rumours, because I told my agent that I didn’t want to hear anything, especially in winter,” he told Sport.

“Leaving Real Sociedad aside with the season we are having would be illogical. I am very happy here.

Despite the arrival of Jorginho, Arsenal are believed to be interested in strengthening their midfield further this summer.

West Ham and England star Declan Rice is of interest and Standard Sport understands the 24-year-old is likely to leave east London this summer.
