Ganguly backs IPL move
The decision to move the Indian Premier League (IPL) to South Africa was the right one according to former India captain Sourav Ganguly.
The tournament was moved to South Africa on Tuesday because of security concerns due to a conflict of dates with general elections in India.
Ganguly said: "There are elections in the country and that's bigger than anything else and security will be a concern."
He added: "With the IPL there are a lot of players and several states are involved. It's a massive tournament. You don't want anything unhappy to happen.
"The option was to go to South Africa and I think that's the best decision the IPL have made."
However, Kolkata Knight Riders manager John Buchanan feels the uncertainty over the final schedule has hampered the preparation of his team.
"The toughest challenge which we face and which all the other teams face at the moment is waiting to know what the schedule is going to be and what the tournament is going to be like," he said.
"We need to know where the games are going to be played and potentially what the conditions are going to be like so therefore what sort of squad we need to take with us.
"Sourav's been there (to South Africa), I've been there, but perhaps not at this stage of the season.
"I've had the opportunity to speak to one of the South African members of the side and his view is that at this stage the wickets would be slow, just as wickets anywhere would be at the end of a long season."
