Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson is hoping to show what he can do when England face France on Wednesday night.

The 20-year-old received his maiden call-up to Fabio Capello's senior squad on Saturday night, before playing a starring role in Sunderland's 3-0 win at Chelsea on Sunday. And now, after watching training this morning, he hopes to be involved at Wembley.

"I didn't train because I've been doing recovery but I watched a bit and it looked very good," he said. "I don't think I'll be intimidated. I'll give players respect and go out and prove to people what I can do."

Henderson added: "I spoke to (Sunderland team-mate) Darren Bent a little bit, he told me what to expect. I'm really looking forward to it, I'll train well and hopefully get a chance to play.

"It's a great opportunity for me and a few of the younger lads to show what we can do. I'll do everything to try and take that chance.

"You want to play for your country and I'll be doing everything I can to get another call-up."

Henderson found out about his selection on the eve of his club's stunning win at the home of the champions and he admitted it had given him a pre-match boost.

He added: "In my mind I was concentrating on the Chelsea game. I got the text on the night and I was over the moon.

"It gave me a boost, more confidence. Before the game I needed to concentrate on Chelsea and make sure I worked hard."
