Henman beats Bogdanovic in Bangkok

Tim Henman was made to fight for victory in Bangkok over fellow Briton Alex Bogdanovic in the second round of the Thailand Open.

Henman, 32, claimed the first set but was his younger opponent then took the second set to open up the possibility of an upset.

But Henman pulled clear in the deciding set to claim a 6-3 5-7 6-1 victory to reach the quarter-final, where he will play Russia's Mikhail Ledovskikh or home favourite Paradorn Srichaphan.

The opening exchanges in Bangkok went with serve, with Bogdanovic initially impressing with a couple of impressive passing winners. But Henman broke in the eighth game and then closed out the set 6-3.

The second set went with serve until Bogdanovic broke to establish a 4-2 lead at the Impact Arena.

However, Henman fought back and converted one of the three break points he had in the eighth game to get back on level terms.

The momentum was with Henman but Bogdanovic's backhand return was causing problems and he broke again to lead 6-5.

Belgrade-born Bogdanovic had to save break points in his next service game but held on to force a decider.

Henman returned to the form he showed in the first set, putting pressure on Bogdanovic's serve and eventually breaking to go 3-1 ahead.

The world number 59 broke again, then held his own serve to claim a 6-3 5-7 6-1 victory.
