Hussain pours on runs

Nasser Hussain was man of the match in Essex's six-run win over Warwickshire yesterday in a contest reduced to 10 overs per side as rain affected matches in the totesport league.

Hussain blasted 40 off 21 balls to set a challenging total of 89 for two. Warwickshire lost regular wickets in the run-chase and could only reach 83 for six to hand Essex a nervy first Division One success.

Glamorgan top the table after three successive victories. Matthew Elliott struck a brilliant 112 not out as they stormed to a seven-wicket win over Northamptonshire, reaching their target of 234 with over five overs still remaining.

Surrey and Hampshire claimed two points each after no play was possible at The Oval. Leicestersire head Division Two after their 33-run win over Derbyshire.
