Inzamam stars for Pakistan

12 April 2012

Captain Inzamam-ul-Haq scored an unbeaten 92 as Pakistan were bowled out for 265 by South Africa shortly after lunch on day two - giving them a lead of 141.

Having started the day on 135 for six, the tourists' lower-order managed to take that total to 223 for nine at lunch in Port Elizabeth.

Seamer Makhaya Ntini gave the South African camp something to cheer about, claiming his 300th Test wicket and his 17th five-wicket haul, but Mohammad Asif batted well as the last pair put on 42 after the break.

Inzamam and Mohammad Sami began the session at the crease and added 31 runs for the seventh wicket before Ntini claimed his landmark scalp when the latter edged the ball into the hands of wicketkeeper Mark Boucher for 10.

Shoaib Akhtar managed just four runs before he was also caught by Boucher off the bowling of Jacques Kallis, while Shaun Pollock removed Danish Kaneria for a single run, providing an easy catch for Herschelle Gibbs.

But Inzamam continued to pile on the runs for Pakistan and reached his 46th Test 50 from 87 balls, including six fours.

Ntini finally dismissed Asif for seven - but the damage had been done.
