Jemima Sumgong of Kenya has won the women's London Marathon in an unofficial time of two hours 22 minutes and 58 seconds.

While Sumgong's brave run was the highlight, there was significant news for the Great Britain's Olympic team not far behind.

Alyson Dixon was the first Briton over the line, closely followed by compatriot Sonia Samuels, and both will be heading to the Rio Games.

They already had the Olympic qualifying standard of two hours 31 minutes in the bag and, with the race doubling as an official British trial, needed to finish in the top two to seal their spots.

Having run together for the majority of the course, they went head to head at the end but celebrated together after Dixon edged it.

Charlotte Purdue was the next home runner to finish on her debut over the distance and could yet be awarded a discretionary Olympic berth.
