John Quinn building path to Aintree with Character Building

Character Building, who has not had a run since winning at last year's Cheltenham Festival, will have his first start of the season in Wetherby's Totescoop6 Handicap Chase on Saturday as he begins his preparation for the Grand National.

John Quinn's 10-year-old was forced to miss last year's National through an 11th-hour setback and a minor injury also saw him miss the Hennessy in November.

Malton handler Quinn says his Kim Muir winner is over his problems now and is on track for the April showpiece.

"He'll run this weekend and he's fine," said Quinn. "He's had a year off and is in good order.

"The only race we missed was the Hennessy because he had a silly knock, he got cast in his box. That was the only race we wanted to run him in last year because we didn't want to risk races like the Welsh National on heavy ground."

Today's meeting at Wincanton passed a morning inspection but officials at waterlogged Chepstow were forced to abandon tomorrow's card.

Catterick's meeting is also in doubt and will need to pass a morning inspection.
