Bookmakers are now allowing singles on Premiership matches and we can take advantage this weekend by backing Derby to see off Charlton.

Single bets have long been taken on televised matches but several bookies are now taking them on all Premiership games.

The Addicks have not had the best of runs with injuries this season, but they have looked a side lacking in both enterprise and ideas. Had it not been for the poor finishing of Middlesbrough striker Alen Boksic, Charlton would have been sunk without trace at The Valley last week.

Derby's recent record has hardly been anything to write home about, either, but they have made teams, such as Leeds and Arsenal, battle for hardfought victories.

Derby, who are set to lose Seth Johnson to Leeds, have several promising youngsters coming through the ranks and at 8-5 cannot be passed up.

Ailing Leicester have a superb record against Liverpool in recent years, but I expected them to be more in the region of 9-2 than 7-2 to beat them at Filbert Street this weekend. The best option is a draw at 12-5.

The top game in Division One this weekend is between Wolves (turned over by lowly Crewe in midweek) and the rejuvenated Crystal Palace, a team playing some of the most attractive football in the division.

However, it's a difficult match to weigh up and the best wager in that league could be Birmingham - with Mick Mills and Jim Barron at the helm after the departure of Trevor Francis - to see off Bradford at St Andrew's.

Birmingham won four home games on the bounce this season before succumbing to both Preston and Burnley, both times by the odd goal. But the Midlanders look solid to beat Bradford at 10-11 (Ladbrokes).

Put them in a win treble alongside Mansfield (evens) at home to Plymouth and Ross County (11-8) at home to Ayr.

In American Football, Oakland look capable of giving 10 points away to Dallas, while the New York Giants have only a three point make-up to find against the high scoring Philadelphia Eagles.
