Jordan payback is disaster for Dowie

13 April 2012

Former Crystal Palace manager Iain Dowie could be facing a £800,000 legal bill after losing a court battle to Palace chairman Simon Jordan.

A High Court judge, who ruled that Dowie deceived Jordan into waiving a £1million compensation clause in his contract days before he joined Charlton, ordered him to pay Palace's legal bill, estimated at £400,000.

Coventry boss Dowie, 42, is facing the prospect of having to pay a similar amount to his own legal team.

Palace are pursuing Dowie for the £1m in a further court hearing.

His counsel, Michael McParland, said Dowie would challenge the judgement and costs order made against him, which was "cataclysmic" for himself, his family and his career as a manager.
