Keegan is under fire

Under pressure: Kevin Keegan

Kevin Keegan is under renewed pressure following Manchester City's dismal start to the season.

His side have won only once in the Premiership and there was an angry reaction from fans after Saturday's 1-0 home defeat by Everton.

After last season's relegation battle, it is understood the City board are losing patience with Keegan who could be two games away from the sack.

The former England coach, who has two years remaining on his £1million-a-year contract, will be asked to explain their poor start and his plans to rectify it at the club's monthly board meeting tomorrow.

In a crucial fortnight for Keegan, City face struggling Crystal Palace on Saturday before meeting Barnsley in the Carling Cup the following Tuesday.

Two further setbacks would almost certainly cost the former Newcastle manager his job.

Should Keegan go, candidates to replace him include Sam Allardyce, Gordon Strachan, Alan Curbishley and Gary Megson.
