Kenyon hails 'incredible season'

Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon hailed the club's "incredible season" in the wake of their title success.

Manager Jose Mourinho's side added the Barclays Premiership crown - Chelsea's first league triumph for 50 years - to their Carling Cup victory in February.

Two second-half goals from Frank Lampard gave the Blues a 2-0 win at Bolton to open up an unassailable 14-point lead over second-placed Arsenal.

On waking up to see Chelsea in the headlines for all the right reasons, Kenyon said: "It is all deserved. Brilliant. It has been an incredible season.

"Jose and the boys and everybody at Chelsea deserves this, especially the fans who have been building towards it. The reaction at Bolton and on the Fulham Road was exceptional."

Chelsea turn their attentions to the second leg of their epic Champions League semi-final against Liverpool at Anfield, with the tie in the balance following the 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge last Wednesday.

"The celebrations were low key," added Kenyon on BBC Radio 5 Live's Sportsweek programme.

"There's a massive game on Tuesday, and all the focus is on that, but there's no better way of going into it than securing the title."

Kenyon concedes the club's aim now is to prove they can sustain the success they have so far achieved this season, and that means repeating their title feat next term.

"We are Premiership champions and that's what we want to enjoy being and we look forward next season to defending our title," maintained Kenyon.

"There's an enormous amount of desire to put Chelsea right up at the top, and in order to be a top team you have to win things more than once and you have to do it over a sustained period of time."
