Khan's TV date to exact revenge

Amir Khan is to get his dream rematch with Olympic and World Champion Mario Kindelan in a fight that will bring ITV back into boxing.

It was confirmed today that Khan will meet Kindelan at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton on 30 April in a re-run of their classic Olympic final in Athens.

On that occasion Kindelan, the Cuban veteran regarded as the world's best pound-for-pound amateur fighter, proved too strong and stylish for Britain's teenage sensation, who picked up a silver medal in the lightweight division.

But Khan, 18, said: "I've been watching videos of our final and I know that by changing my style I can beat him. I'm not saying this will be my last amateur fight but if it is to be so I couldn't have wished for a better test."

ITV have been out of boxing since the mid-90s but controller of sport Mark Sharman said this fight was too good to miss. He said: "Millions of viewers watched Amir's incredible performances at the Olympics last year and we think the nation wants to see the rematch between him and Kinderlan on British soil."

The bout will be a fundraiser for the Bury Amateur Boxing Club - where Khan honed his skills as a youngster - and will be co-promoted by them and Frank Warren.

The fight was originally scheduled to take place in Bolton on 16 April.

However, Kinderlan is set to be part of a Cuban team to fight in Dublin the previous night and that commitment could not be broken.
