Lampard aiming to emulate Blues form

12 April 2012

Frank Lampard has vowed to put his own below-par World Cup campaign behind him by achieving the same goal ratio for England he has displayed for Chelsea.

Lampard was disappointed with his failure to find the target in five matches in Germany as Sven Goran Eriksson's side crashed out at the quarter-final stage. He still has a healthy ratio of 12 goals in 46 internationals ahead of Saturday's European Championships qualifier with Andorra at Old Trafford and is the leading marksman in the current squad.

He said: "I'd like to get up to the same goal ratio with England as at club level. I was getting towards that before the World Cup and five or six games without a goal knocked that back again!"

He added: "That happens. You don't get opportunities at times or they don't go in for you at times. I would love to have the same ratio for England as I have for Chelsea."

Lampard ended that barren summer sequence for his country by hitting the target in the 4-0 win over Greece in the friendly international a fortnight ago.

He said: "The goal was nice and a relief. It is well documented that I didn't score in the World Cup. I tried my hardest to do that.

"It would have made me very happy to contribute goals to the World Cup and be very successful. When that doesn't happen you want to bounce back from it as soon as possible and no better time than the first game after that."
