Lampard's eastern promise

Adrian Curtis13 April 2012

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has not given up hope of forcing his way into Sven-Goran Eriksson's World Cup plans.

Lampard is now producing the kind of form that persuaded the club to pay West Ham £11million for his services last summer.

However, his international future was put on hold when he was dropped by England for his part in a drinking spree at a Heathrow hotel just 24 hours after the 11 September attacks on the United States.

Lampard, Eidur Gudjohnsen, John Terry and Jody Morris were fined two weeks' wages by the club after they were accused of stripping, vomiting and laughing in front of shocked American tourists. But Lampard is determined to restore his reputation and make Eriksson's squad for this summer's finals in Japan and South Korea.

Lampard said: "I'm sure the manager has players in mind, but there's obviously the window for people who can make a position their own. It would mean everything to me. It's what every kid dreams of."

Meanwhile, Graeme Le Saux has had a yellow card for diving overturned. Although there is no formal appeals procedure after bookings, referee Eddie Wolstenholme decided he had been too harsh over the incident against Southampton on New Year's Day.
