Mackenzie travels in hope after opening with a 68

Journeyman golf professional Malcolm Mackenzie made a fine start to the South African Open with an opening round of 68 at the Royal Durban Country Club today.

Sheffield-born Mackenzie, embarking on his 25th year on the European Tour, was tied for second place with former champion Tim Clark, three shots behind local player Titch Moore. Ryder Cup star Darren Clarke had a level-par 72.
