Magnusson: Curbishley`s job is safe

12 April 2012

West Ham stressed that Alan Curbishley's job is not under threat despite their 4-0 defeat at relegation rivals Charlton.

There have been claims that chairman Eggert Magnusson has given Curbishley a deadline to turn things around, but the Icelandic businessman has strenuously denied this.

A club spokesman said: "Alan's future is not in doubt. Obviously everyone is disappointed with the result, but the chairman remains fully committed to Alan."

Bitter West Ham fans sang "there's only one Alan Pardew" and "you're not fit to wear the shirt" as their team crashed.

Pardew, sacked by Hammers new Scandinavian owners on December 10, took over at Charlton on Boxing Day and saw his new side post an emphatic win against the side now managed by former Addicks boss Curbishley.

He said: "The performance was good, but the win was all-important no matter how it came.

"It has been a difficult day, a difficult week leading up to it for me because I have a genuine love for West Ham and their fans, which will never die.

"We've been through some tough times together and I feel for them, but my job now is to get wins that will keep Charlton in the Premiership and hopefully that's what we will do."

Pardew admitted: "Of course I felt uncomfortable hearing what the fans were saying, but our kinsmanship is over now."

Pardew led West Ham to the FA Cup final last season as well as a top 10 place in their first season back in the Premiership, but said: "It is all about Charlton now - not me or Alan Curbishley."
