Martin O'Neill set to let Gareth Barry sweat it out

13 April 2012

Martin O'Neill will not attempt to rush Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry into signing a new contract despite the Liverpool target claiming he now wants to stay at the club.

O'Neill, who is expected to ring the changes for the second leg of the UEFA Cup clash with Hafnarfjordur tonight with Villa holding a 4-1 lead from the away leg, will instead adopt a softly softly approach.

O'Neill said: "If Gareth stays with us for the foreseeable future, I will be really delighted. It will be a really big bonus for us. If Gareth is here this time next week, I will be relieved.

"I wouldn't want to be rushing anyone into making decisions or asking anyone to do something that no-one is really comfortable with."
