Morley hit by more injury woe

12 April 2012

Great Britain forward Adrian Morley's nightmare return to Super League continued on Tuesday when it was confirmed he needs more facial surgery after sustaining a second freak injury.

The former Sydney Roosters favourite suffered a fractured eye socket less than 40 minutes into his Warrington debut in the opening game of the Super League season at Wigan last month.

And he is now facing another lay-off of at least a month after sustaining a second facial fracture during his home debut for the Wolves in their match against Hull KR on Sunday.

Warrington's worst fears were realised when scans revealed more damage and he will undergo surgery later this week.

"I am absolutely devastated," said Morley. "This is a different part of my face but it's another freak accident."

Morley, 29, who sustained the original injury following an accidental clash of heads with Wigan prop Eamonn O'Carroll, spent hours in a hyperbaric chamber in Manchester to speed up the recovery process and returned ahead of schedule.

He was just 17 minutes into his comeback when he clashed heads with Warrington and Great Britain team-mate Paul Johnson as they attempted to make a tackle on Hull KR full-back Ben Cockayne.
