Muttiah Muralitharan claimed eight wickets for 87 runs against India in the third and deciding Test in Colombo.

The Sri Lankan spinner reduced the tourists to 234 all out on the opening day, despite a 97-run opening stand between Shiv Sundar Das and Sadagoppan Ramesh. Sri Lanka were 13 without loss.

Meanwhile in Multan, Pakistan were 219 for two in reply to Bangladesh's 134 all out on the first day of their Asian Test championship match.
