Murray hoping to inspire Scots kids

12 April 2012

British number one Andy Murray hopes he is inspiring more young Scots to take up tennis.

Murray will be back on the courts in Scotland later this month when he participates in the Aberdeen Cup.

"The Aberdeen Cup is more about promoting tennis in Scotland, trying to get kids playing, promoting the kids clinics and just trying to make tennis a little bit more accessible in Scotland," said Murray.

"As long as kids come along and enjoy themselves, it's fun, then that is the most important thing.

"I hope I am doing something to inspire the kids. I try to do as much with the kids when I can and I would love tennis to be a bigger sport in Scotland.

"It's something that can be a success because a lot of the kids have great drive and determination and with the right help and right support we can have more top tennis players."

Murray is enjoying a break from the sport and is looking forward to some rest and recuperation before he begins his preparations for the Aberdeen Cup and next year's gruelling tennis circuit.

He added: "I'll train for five days before I go to the Aberdeen Cup but I'll take 10 days off before that.

"After the Aberdeen Cup I'll head to the States to get ready for next year.

"I'll go on holiday although I am not sure exactly where yet, just get away on a beach and relax, have a bit of time to myself."
