Naseem Hamed's 30th birthday has come and gone without any word of his plans to fight on or retire. In fact, the former world featherweight champion's future is a mystery even to two of the men closest to him.

Brother Raith, his business manager, admitted: 'I don't know what he's going to do.' And Barry Hearn, Hamed's promoter, said: 'I hear he's back in training but there's nothing happening in the process for a real fight to be made.' Hearn's 'gut feeling' is that he will quit.
