New Zealand recover against Aussies

New Zealand seeking the win that would clinch their place in the VB triangular series finals, recovered from a poor start to finish on 245 for eight off their 50 overs against Australia in Melbourne today.

Stephen Fleming and Chris Cairns both scored half-centuries. Pace bowler Shane Bond kept the Kiwis on top by dismissing Adam Gilchrist for 14 and Ricky Ponting for eight. When Mark Waugh was caught in the deep for 21, the Aussies, third in the table behind South Africa, were 51 for three after 14 overs.
