Newcastle carry out Blades raid

13 April 2012

Sheffield United assistant manager Kevin Blackwell believes Newcastle's £1million man Wayne Quinn can make it in the Premiership - but he admits the Blades will miss him.

The 24-year-old defender's month-long loan at St James' Park ran out at the weekend, and he is now with the Magpies at their training camp in La Manga, Spain.

United have agreed terms with United and official confirmation of the transfer is expected shortly.

Blackwell reckons Quinn, who has been capped at England B, Under-21 and youth level, has the ability to be a real star.

"You've got to move on - both the club and Wayne Quinn as a player," Blackwell said.

"Both Wayne Quinn and Curtis Woodhouse (who moved to Birmingham) have the ability to go on from here.

"With players like Quinn and Woodhouse coming through the club and playing at a good level, you're always going to miss them."

Blades chairman Derek Dooley and his Newcastle counterpart Freddy Shepherd are thrashing out the final details of Quinn's switch from Bramall Lane.
