No 1 spot still Hewitt's target

13 April 2012

Lleyton Hewitt revived his charge for the world No 1 ranking when he beat Sebastien Grosjean 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the opening match of the season-ending Tennis Masters Cup in Sydney.

The 20-year-old Australian double-faulted at 30-40 in the fourth game to surrender the initial momentum to his French rival, who went on to clinch the first set in 36 minutes.

But from then on, the world No 2, who will face his opponent in the Davis Cup Final in Melbourne at the end of the month, took command and increased the pressure on Brazil's Gustavo Kuerten, who tops the rankings.

Third- seed Andre Agassi, meanwhile, beat Wimbledon finalist Pat Rafter 6-2, 6-4.
