Now Garcia has his sights on Tiger

13 April 2012

Sergio Garcia is convinced he is ready to challenge Tiger Woods for the world No1 spot after winning his second US PGA Tour title in three weeks at the Buick Classic.

The 21-year-old Spaniard shot a final round four-under-par 67 to hold off veteran American Scott Hoch and match a tournament scoring record by finishing on 16 under 268.

Over the past two years, no one - particularly David Duval and Phil Mickelson - has been able to provide a consistent challenge to Woods.

But Garcia seems to have finally harnessed his talent, finishing no lower than 12th in his last five PGA Tour starts, winning The Colonial and finishing second to Woods at The Memorial.

"I think I am getting closer and closer," Garcia said. "Sure, it is going to be very difficult to be No1 because Tiger is so many points ahead but I feel like I am getting there."
